The IRSN has developed many nuclear safety and radiological protection computer codes. Below, there is a list describing some of these codes.
Software tools
Pelicans is a library of tools used to develop computer software to solve partial differential equations by focusing on the design of a numerical scheme suited to the physical model being studied.
PROMETHEE is a software environment for the management of numerical simulations based on the calculation codes.
The SUNSET software is a statistical tool providing a collection of methods for information treatment in risk analysis studies.
Nuclear safety
The SCANAIR computer code was developed by the IRSN
in the early 1990s. It is designed to simulate the thermo-mechanical
behavior of fuel rods during a reactivity-initiated accident (RIA) in a
pressurized water reactor (PWR).
The DRACCAR software simulates loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCA) such as the loss of coolant in the reactor core or in a spent fuel storage tank.
MORET is a Monte-Carlo code for the evaluation of criticality risk in nuclear installations.
The computer code system ASTEC is being developed to simulate a severe accident in a Light Water Reactor.
The HEMERA software package is a computer tool for three-dimensional thermal-hydraulic and neutronic simulation of reactivity accidents in nuclear reactors.
The ISIS computer software is a computer tool dedicated to the study and the numerical simulation of fires in industrial facilities.
SYLVIA is a software system for the analyse of the ventilation of a fire and aerocontamination.
The TONUS code is a single tool for processing all phenomena relating to the risk of hydrogen (distribution, combustion, detonation) likely to occur in a pressurised water reactor containment in a severe accident.
MC3D is a 3D thermo-hydraulic multiphase flow code mainly used for fuel-coolant interaction (or steam explosion).
P²REMICS is a digital software tool for simulating explosions in industrial facilities. The software calculates the formation of explosive atmospheres, deflagration phenomena and propagation of the shock waves generated.
Radiation protection for human health and environment
The software platform SYMBIOSE allows to simulate the impact on humans caused by a radioactive contamination of the environment: it models the transport and transfer of radiation sources to the various environmental compartments, leading to a calculation of the dose received by humans.
EDEN allows the dose evaluation for several kinds of organisms living in various ecosystems. EDEN converts any radionuclide concentration into dose or dose rate delivered to any target organism.
OEDIPE is for the simulation of anthroporadiametric measurements and the calculation of doses delivered to organs or tissues based on realistic parameters for the contaminated subject.
The MELODIE software program is IRSN's reference tool for assessing the impact of a deep geological repository on the geosphere by calculating the transfer of radionuclides through a porous and fractured medium.
AQUAREJ calculates the dose impact of radioactives discharges in rivers, associated with regular working of nuclear facilities.
CASTEAUR (French acronym for Simplified calculation of transfers to receptor waterways) is designed for use in studying the impact of accidental and routine releases from fuel cycle facilities.
FOCON 96 is for the estimation of the dosimetric impact of atmospheric releases of nuclear installations during normal operation.
This code is used to assess specific activity or activity concentration levels in the marine ecosystem of the Channel and southern North Sea resulting from chronic or accidental release.
