In April 2013, the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (NRPA) and IRSN organized an international conference, co-sponsored by WHO, on the prevention of radon risk in homes.
On this occasion, speakers from eight countries (United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and France) presented their actions to reduce exposure to radon in the home.
Several presentations highlighted the experience of local actors (NGO’s, elected officials, building professionals) in the effective implementation of national policies in their territory.
These two days allowed 150 participants from different backgrounds (civil society, government or technicians) to share best practices of each country and the challenges to improve the prevention of radon risk in the future.
The final roundtable “A way forward: how to move from knowledge to action with local actors ?” offered important thoughts on what will be tomorrow’s radon risk prevention.
